Our New Editor: David Pearson

This week, we can share some great news – we have a new editor! Many of you will already know David Pearson, who has spent the last 40 or more years enjoying the rare book world, with 35 years working in various major research libraries in the UK. He started his career in Durham, and went on to the British Library, the National Art Library at the V&A, the Wellcome Library and Senate House. He retired in 2017 as Director of Culture, Heritage and Libraries for the City of London Corporation. David is now a Research Fellow at the University of London’s Institute of English Studies and a member of the teaching staff of the London Rare Books School. A past President of the Bibliographical Society, he has written several books on book history, with a particular interest in aspects of the book as an owned and designed object.

David has been a subscriber to The Book Collector since 1982, and a regular contributor since 1986, so we couldn’t wish for a more enthusiastic and experienced editor who effortlessly combines his academic background with his approachable style of writing. We all agree that the best way to honour James’s memory and his commitment to the journal is to keep the show on the road, and that is what we are going to do.
