News Story
Another extract from our popular Polar Special Issue from Autumn 2018.
This article explores the life of Apsley Cherry-Garrard, who, at 24 years old, was one of the youngest members of Captain Scott's ill-fated Terra Nova expedition.
In 1922, encouraged by his friend George Bernard Shaw, Cherry wrote his personal account of the expedition into a book, The Worst Journey in the World, which was published as Penguin Books 100th publication. Over 80 years later this book is still in print and is often cited as a classic of travel literature, having been acclaimed by some as 'the greatest true adventure story ever written'.
This article was written, and is read, by our editor, James Fleming.
